Isn't that the *same* as the R4xxxM3 but it shipped with Windows 7 laptops?

So I'm guessing we can flash our Z3/Z4 with this Z5 BIOS, right? But I suppose this hasn't been modded to have SLIC 2.1. If it hasn't, hope someone with the knowledge would mod SLIC 2.1 into it.

Edit: On second thought... it might already have SLIC 2.1... since Z5s are natively running Win 7, which requires SLIC 2.1.

Yes, it has the SLIC 2.1.

@cosmok: Like we do with the other BIOS. But in order to do the EFI boot, we need to disconnect the HD and the DVD.

How much time should I get out of a new E6400 Latitude battery?

Just bought a new one (Genuine Dell) and im only getting 3 and 1/2 hours on a full charge.

Does that sound right?

Sounds and looks... you might just want to time it... could still be lousy!

Also which battery did you get...?

Reply 4 : How much time should I get out of a new E6400 Latitude battery?

Also, which GPU do you have? 6 hours is around the best you can squeeze out of a 6 cell battery if you have Intel graphics and 20-25% less with the Nvidia GPU. Also, the newer batteries for the E6410 are compatible and have a bit more capacity.

Reply 5 : How much time should I get out of a new E6400 Latitude battery?

I have 10 hours and half with my 9-cell with the Nvidia GPU

It is to be noted that my old 9-cell battery was 85Whr, and the new one is 90Whr. I think what happened, is that Dell was out of E6400 batteries, and gave me the E6410 battery instead.

Internet@tv in Malta

The local samsung agent is saying that Internet@tv is not available in Malta.

Any ideas when Malta will have this service available, or will it be easier to switch to google tv?

Seriously I'm reconsidering complaining to the consumer division etc as Internet@tv is supposed to work!

Reply 1 : Internet@tv in Malta

cweb777,

I can't speak for which widgets will or won't work in different regions. I would recommend contacting the Samsung customer service center in your region.

--HDTech

Reply 2 : Internet@tv in Malta

I did contact the centre and the response was that they were not aware it would ever become available in Malta!

NO WIDGETS work in Malta and they will NEVER WORK. Shame.

Shame on samsung. I will not buy a tv set from Samsung with these features as it would be just a waste of money.

On the other hand, I'm happy that Google is having its own Google tv (hopefully NOT REGION restricted) and I will happily buy a tv set supporting this instead.

Reply 3 : Internet@tv in Malta

Cweb77, If you bought the TV from a dealer who said this service was available, then you're due a refund. However, many users have found it easier just to change the country in the "Plug'n'play" set-up. I should think this might change the menu language as well, so choose with care. Also, choose only a country within the region supported by your TV.
http://connectedtv.yahoo.com/partners/samsung
shows the countries supported, if you click the link at the bottom of the page.

Hi, I am in Malta and have the 40C6500 tv, some of the widgets work like accu weather and daily motion, but facebook, twitter, youtube and picasa they all fail. I think these are blocked from the ISP.

E6420 corner popping out

Dell is refusing me to ship it back for money.

I need to know how to solve this. They offered to ship a replacement plate, but I'm skeptical to that. Where does the problem lie?

And some report they can fix it by connecting it in a certain manner (front part first). Does this work for everyone of you? I don't have the possibility of testing it right now.

Why can't you simply return the e6420 for refund? Thats what I chose to do after my replacement e6420 had the same problem. No amount of tedious placement will fix the problem. If the hook on the cover pops off the groove on the laptop body, there is no amount of 'special connecting' that will solve the issue.

The funny thing is, with the 7 screws holding the back panel on, 2 in the front would have eliminated this problem.

Reply 3 : E6420 corner popping out

It is not possible returning it for a refund in my country. I'm trying everything in my power to get rid of it because I'm not happy with the computer. However they have to fix the problem before I can auction it away or whatever.

So I have to send it in to get this problem fixed? That would take many weeks.

This individual got a better replacement than what he originally had. Contact the OP for details. Here's the thread that the OP started:

I bought my xps 1640 from USA and got it replaced in EGYPT with L502X.........

Reply 5 : E6420 corner popping out

If I Had to keep my 6420, I'd find a way to use two more screws on the bottom panel.

This is exactly what I would do...I was contemplating it before returning it:

1.) Get the replacement bottom panel from Dell.

2.) See if it fixes the problem (probably not), then continue...

3.) Remove the cover and inspect the laptop frame.

4.) Note the space near speaker on the optical drive side where another screw could be mounted. (Pic below)

5.) Drill hole in the replacement bottom panel.

6.) Drill a small hole and thread it at space near the speaker on the chassis.

7.) Put cover back with new screw in the new location in the front.

I know it sucks to do, but this modification would completely resolve the chassis separation issue. If you do it properly, if the laptop needed service, you could simply swap the bottom panel and the technician would never notice.

Some double stick foam tape would probably work, too....but its not a fix, more of a band-aid.

Why can't you return it? Dell should have a 21 day return policy. Where do you live?

You could RMA it to Dell and then resell it once you get it back...it should be covered by Dell.

While awesome..that's TOTALLY unacceptable. He shouldn't have to resort to fixing it himself.

OP, do NOT let Dell strong arm you, you paid probably over 1k for this computer and expected a higher level of fit and finish then that don't let them not try to work with you if you don't want to try the replacement plate.

The replacement plate might have improved hooks to keep it attached to the chassis more firmly, so ...it might be worth a shot.

Reply 8 : E6420 corner popping out

I say try again with a different rep, i'm not convinced that you aren't allowed to return the unit if you're not satisfied and within the cooling off period.

My friend called Dell and is currently having his second E6420 shipped at this moment due to the popping off issue. I can't see why they would treat you any differently regardless of where you are based.

Reply 9 : E6420 corner popping out

I was on the phone over an hour with them and they threw me around all the departments. There is not a doubt they will have to fix the issue.

I live in Norway, and when ordering as a business there is no return for money (at least when there is no damage). However I found this now in the contract:

"Non-consumers can only reject products with significant

discrepancies in relation to the agreed by written notice to Dell within 7 days after shipping, otherwise regarded customer to have accepted the Product."

What do you think of this? Sounds to me like they should have let me return it without questions.

dv7tqe at Best Buy

Hey all,

Wondered if anyone had heard when the dv7tqe was going to be available at Best Buy, specifically Best Buy Canada? Or through HP Canada for that matter? My current Pavilion, 4 years old, is about to go and I want to wait to grab the new dv7t, with the separate mouse buttons, Coolsense Technology etc.

Reply 1 : dv7tqe at Best Buy

why not get it online? its way cheaper

Reply 2 : dv7tqe at Best Buy

I would have but someone gave me a gift card for Best Buy haha, with the intent to use it on this, and they provide good warranties. It's odd though, HP Canada lists the dv7-5000 on its site, but doesn't have a price for it and it doesn't appear you can buy it yet.

Dv7-4294nr From Fry's.

So on wednesday I was looking for a new sandy bridge pc, initially I was looking at a dv7 quad edition or a Envy 17.

Then I came across the Dv7-4294nr in a Fry's ad.

$849.99

$150 INSTANT SAVINGS

HP ENTERTAINMENT NOTEBOOK MADE FOR THE WAY YOU PLAY 2nd GENERATION Intel Core" i7 PROCESSOR FOR VISIBLY A SMARTER PERFORMANCE Windows" 7 Home Premium 4GB Memory & 750GB Hard Drive High Definition Entertainment & Smooth Game Play With Radeon HD6570 1GB Discrete Graphics Increased Security With The Integrated Fingerprint Reader lntelr WiDi to Stream Videos And Photos To HDTVs Microsoft" Office 2010 Preloaded (Purchase Of A Product Key Required To Activate) #6508743 Limit 1 Per Customer $999.99 REGUALAR PRICE - 150 INSTANT SAVINGS = $849.99

4/10/2011

At $850 the bargain was just too good to pass up.. The specs are almost identical to the dv7 quad edition. Though one thing I did notice is was that the color of My new machine Is kind of a metallic brown/champagne..

So I began to worry that I might have some how found a SB pc that was affected by the chipset issue but I checked Hp's sight and according to my SN it's not affected

SO I bought an 8gb ram set and a New SSD the adata s599 at 64gb (actually around 55 formatted.) SO far it runs great and only takes a few seconds!!!

(I also did a clean install of windows)

I was wondering if any one else had picked this up and your initial impressions.

Reply 1 : Dv7-4294nr From Fry's.

wow this laptop is identical to the DV7TQE lol! Except you can get a 6770M instead of 6570m. I'm just sick of DV7TQE's delays

Reply 2 : Dv7-4294nr From Fry's.

Yeah I know, I was going to get an envy but i really did not want to wait until the end of the month (or possibly longer)

Frys also has a high spec config which includes 8gb ram and 500+500 Hard drive config for $1100 after $50 rebate.

I spent 850 for the pc plus 90 for ram and 120 for the ssd plus 40 for the hdcaddy.

So 850+90+120+40=$1100 So for the same price as the high spec version at frys i now have a 64gb ssd+750gb hd config.

Reply 3 : Dv7-4294nr From Fry's.

That's a lot like one of my dv7tqe-6xxx, except I got 30% faster video, a 640gb 7200rpm HD, a slightly slower SSD, a spare 6 cell battery to go with the 9 cell, USB 3.0, and a one month wait.

$810 +$48 tax +$80 Corsair Nova 64 SSD +$36 caddy (got 2 for $72) +$49 4GB mem card -$50 credit from HP for the memory (they changed the base configuration from 6gig to 8gig after I ordered) -$50 cash back from American Express (OPEN Savings + Simply Cash Reward) = $923 and waiting patiently after ordering March 23rd.

Reply 4 : Dv7-4294nr From Fry's.

Thats a pretty awesome config for the price but I really just couldn't wait. I have a 3d design class that I needed a new computer for. I do wish I would have had the better video card though... But i don't do much gaming (only css l4d and portal) and it runs all settings max at 60fps(locked) with no lag whatsoever. The 3d apps I use really are not very demanding. I do plan on using photoshop but I haven't installed that yet.

Considering buying the G53SW - help/feedback, please?

Hey guys!

Well, I've been on a bit of a wild ride trying to find a high quality ~15-inch gaming/multimedia laptop within my price range. I thought that the Dell XPS series would be ideal for my needs at first, and went ahead and customized one of their laptops. I had been under the relatively mistaken impression that the difference between the NVIDIA 525m and 540m was negligible at best (and that they were great graphics card to begin with) and configured an XPS 15 with a Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM processor, FHD 1080p resolution, 6GB of memory and the 525m graphics card. Needless to say, after some research I soon found out that I would not really be able to play games with high-quality graphics that I had wanted and anticipated, as the graphics card was, well, fairly mismatched with the rest of the system in terms of strength. At least in the sense that I wouldn't really be able to do any high quality gaming at the native 1920x1080 resolution with that graphics card. Even the 540m wasn't really going to do the trick, not for me at least.

So, a week after ordering I managed to cancel it - no harm, no foul. And now I'm looking at making this purchase at newegg: Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G53SW-XN1 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

Now, that is an Asus G53SW-XN1. The system specs are actually fairly similar to the XPS I configured, but for the graphics card:

i7-2630QM processor

15.6 FHD 1920x1080

6GB DDR3 memory

500GB 7200 RPM hard drive

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

DVD Super Multi drive

8-cell lithium-ion battery

That's most of the important stuff listed there. The price is $1199.99

Now, some of this concerns me slightly. That price seems awfully cheap, first off, and I cannot seem to find ANY information on the XN1 suffix on the model name. It worries me that there's some important bit of hardware that could be left out within this configuration, and *that* could be why it's so cheap. Everything does seem to be in order, as far as I can see. Anyone else notice anything of concern?

Also, there is no mention of backlighting. I assume that all the G53/73 series have backlit keyboards at the least, and I also assume that the color for this one is the basic white. I intend on calling newegg to inquire about this, just to make sure. Is there anything else I might want to ask?

Also, I can't really find many reviews on the G53SW. I'm assuming that it's the exact same machine as the G73SW except for the fact that it's the 15-inch model, instead of the 17-inch one. As far as I can tell, the basic hardware specifications are the same. Can I trust that this is the case? I just mean that when I read positive reviews for the G73SW, can I trust that the G53SW will perform the same but for the smaller screen size?

I guess those are the important questions. I'm really excited about ordering this laptop, and I really don't wanna get screwed over. I felt like that happened a little bit with my XPS experience. But it seems that I actually will be able to play videogames at a high level with this machine, in addition to enjoying other multimedia stuff like watching movies/TV, listening to music, and so forth. I'm just really neurotic about this laptop stuff at the moment, and I'd like a little assurance that this one I'm buying isn't going to be some weak, inadequate version because it's, like, cheaper than the base model on xoticpc before customizing options, for example. That XN1 suffix worries me a bit, since it's not the A1 suffix on xoticpc. I know that the specs are what they are, and I won't be able to customize anything on newegg. I just wanna make sure this is essentially the same great laptop as the one described in the G73SW reviews I'm reading - since those reviews had the same processor and graphics card and typically about as much memory (maybe the test models had 8GB instead of 6GB). So, I assume that I shouldn't worry. Right?

Reply 1 : Considering buying the G53SW - help/feedback, please?

That looks like a great deal from NewEGG.. The only differences I notice are 2 gig less ram, and smaller HD (750 VRS 500). The advantage of a botique retailer is they will test your system B4 shipping if asked, and may offer more help if RMA is needed... If you have good tech skills, I would go with the newegg deal and for the price difference you could replace the boot drive with an SSD. Plus a clean install of windows will run incredibly fast on a well speced machine like that. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks! That's helpful I thought it looked like a good deal too, I'm really excited about it.

I have decent tech skills, but I'm pretty good buddies with the IT guy at work, and I think if I have any issues he'll be more than capable of helping me out. I guess you do run that risk if something turns out to be weird or buggy with your system - they would build and test it out before sending it to you at a place like xoticpc, whereas with newegg I assume they have a bunch of those laptops with identical specs all boxed up and ready to ship out, correct?

Also, I assume that I can add an extra 2GB of ram on my own. Or more? is 16GB the max, or is that just the case on the G73 because of the bigger chassis and 8GB is the max on the G53? Regardless, I sort of think 6GB will be enough, and if isn't then I would hope 8GB would do the trick.

Reply 3 : Considering buying the G53SW - help/feedback, please?

I have never dealt with NE, but I am sure that is how they keep the cost low (no testing and selling many units). Just as an aside, I recently dealt with an online etailer for a high end radio, I asked and they threw in a pair of decent headphones for free.. my point is ask new egg if they can throw in any goodies before you purchase.

If it comes with 6 GIG it must have 4 slots for RAM (like the G73 series). To keep costs down they hook you up with 2 gig modules so no doubt you can go to 8 GIG. I am not sure about 16 gig, but I am sure someone else here will know.

BTW I assume you have good eye sight, full HD at native resolution on a 15.6 " screen means small desktop icons. and text etc

I had to get new glasses just to use mine!

Reply 4 : Considering buying the G53SW - help/feedback, please?

Heyy, that's not a bad idea about asking for freebies - I'd imagine that if you're spending a lot of money with them, they wouldn't shy away from tossing in an extra here or they to keep you happy and shopping with them. I ought to give that a shot, why not.

And yeah I'm sure there's enough slots for 8 gigs of RAM. I don't know why I care if there's more than that, I highly doubt that I would need more than 8GB. And yeah, thankfully I do have pretty great eyesight, I love having tiny icons... I use a 15" macbook pro right now and everyone is consistently shocked at how absurdly tiny my dock and icons are, but that's just how I like it.

Don't get confused, though - it's not a particularly good Macbook Pro. It's like, about 3.5-4 years old now and wasn't a particularly high-end model when it was first purchased, I don't think. It's a hand-me-down from my father, he generally gives me his old laptop whenever he gets a new one. I haven't had to buy a computer for myself since... around 2002, maybe 2003. So it's been fun (albeit a little scary) to find one for myself, this time around.

And I'm so sick of this MBP - it's dying, really. The battery life currently maxes out at around 25 seconds, maybe 30 seconds if I'm lucky. the CD/DVD drive is totally burnt out and spits out whatever I put into it, after making some sputtering noises. My little Penrym dual processor doesn't really cut it anymore, neither does the whopping 2GB of RAM, and my GeForce 8600m GT graphics card wasn't exactly "top of the line" when it first came out, I don't think.

It's funny, really. I've been getting into playing Starcraft 2 a lot lately, which I can actually run on this computer with all the graphics set to the lowest possible settings and the resolution at like 1024x640 (native is 1440x900). With those settings, I can almost get around ~35 FPS if I close out every other program! And this is the most advanced laptop I've ever owned, I mean, on those settings the game looks pretty good to me and plays fairly smoothly as far as I can tell. I'm hoping that I have a lot to look forward to with the G53SW, but I really have no idea just how much better this new computer is actually going to be. Will it be a lot better? Just sort of better? Am I going to be unbelievably shocked and blown away? I look forward to the surprise.

Reply 5 : Considering buying the G53SW - help/feedback, please?

Ok, well... Here is some stuff that, well, I don't know... That newegg "details" panel must be incomplete. I really have to call these guys tomorrow and make sure.

For instance, here's the sale page for the G53JW-XN1 from newegg, check out the details panel: Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G53JW-XN1 NoteBook Intel Core i7 740QM(1.73GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

Now compare that to the details panel for the G53SW-XN1: Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G53SW-XN1 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

I *sincerely* hope that all those features the JW has that the SW doesn't is just an error on the website. I would be severely upset if I got my laptop back and it had no LED backlight, only *one single USB port*, no headphone jack or microphone jack, no illuminated keypad, no AC adapter, no LAN communication capabilities... Especially given that the SW costs more than the JW and is obviously a new and improved model.

That has to be an error, right?

edit: On the bright side, as far as I can tell the only difference (in the G53JW version) between the A1 suffix and the XN1 suffix, is that the A1 version has a 750GB hard drive/6GB of RAM whereas the XN1 version has a 500GB hard drive/4GB of RAM. So I would assume that in reality, the differences between the A1 and XN1 in the G53SW series is the same, except with 6GB of RAM in the XN1 and 8GB of RAM in the A1, while the hard drives remain the same in the respective models. Also, since there is a max of 16GB of RAM in the G53JW series I would imagine that's the same for the G53SW series; hooray I can buy a ton more memory and cram my laptop full of it if I so desire! ^____^

I just hope that the product details page is incomplete because the product just went up on newegg >_>

Yeah, I mean, I sort of figured as much. Incomplete information like that just bothers me, makes me worried, because I'm perpetually nervous and full of anxiety. Plus, whenever I spend money I imagine all kinds of unbelievable and impossible ways for whomever is selling stuff to me to be screwing me over. Trying to work with Dell didn't help because I'm pretty sure I actually was being screwed over, most of the time.

Still, good to know. I assume those basic models just have plain white lighting for the backlighting, correct? I'm sort of operating under the assumption that the model I'm purchasing is more or less the same as the default G53SW-A1 on xoticpc, except for the hard drive and memory.

I certainly hope not. I mean, the warranty is less, but I'm not sure it means anything special - besides, the information is so incomplete on that page that it could, in reality, be a 2-year warranty that's mismarked. That's a page that says the G53 comes with just 1 USB 3.0 port.

And besides, depending on how you look at it, a 1-year warranty instead of a 2-year one could just mean they're that much more confident that the product will not malfunction! Or, erm, not. D: You can increase the warranty via additional options on newegg, though.

Reply 9 : Considering buying the G53SW - help/feedback, please?

Yeah, they should be the same. Have you checked out G53SW-XR1. They are exactly the same. Maybe the XN1 is for Newegg distribution? If they are the same then G53SW-XN1 will have only 2 slots for RAM, so it's up to 8GB only.... A bit let down...

Current HP/Compaq BIOS List

Last Updated: April 10, 2011

A list of current BIOS releases for all relatively recent HP and Compaq notebooks is now available. Numerous models are covered, and each list is organized by whether the notebooks are meant for consumers or for businesses. Each list is further categorized by product line (Pavilion, EliteBook, etc.) with individual models roughly sorted by screen size and release date. All of the BIOS images linked from here are original and unmodified, hosted at HP's very own FTP server.

Please refrain from posting BIOS issues in this thread, unless the issue stems from here due to inaccurate information. If you are encountering a specific problem that pertains to the BIOS, please create a separate thread for it in the appropriate forum section. You will likely have a much better chance at receiving a response in doing so. If you find a BIOS update or would like to make a suggestion or request for this thread, please post here.

Important Information
  • The BIOS images posted in this thread must be flashed in a Windows environment.

  • Be sure to carefully read the guidelines displayed by the BIOS update utility to ensure a successful flash.

ASUS refusing to give me an RMA number unless..

Well I want to do a walk in drop off but they are refusing to give me an RMA number saying that its meant for shipping it to them. I dont get the logic, their repair centre is 30 mins away from my house. I can just pop in, get my stuff done the same day and walk out a happy customer rather than wait 2 weeks without a laptop. It saves them shipping costs and time, what's there to lose really. It's really dumb. Can I just go without one? Someone suggested I should get one first just in case.

Reply 1 : ASUS refusing to give me an RMA number unless..

they are right. an rma number is meant for tracking purpose. if you want to do a drop off simply get aproval onsite and the reps name if that is what they are telling you

Fujitsu scansnap s1500m

I'm looking at purchasing the scansnap, but one of my main purposes is to scan the notes on my hundreds of index cards that I've used for teaching. I want to load them on my ipad and macbook pro. I've heard this machine does not handle anything other than standard weights of paper, and if it can't handle index cards I'll have to look elsewhere. Has anyone had any experience with this? I need someone to advise me before I purchase. Thanks

Where to buy LIFEBOOK NH751 >-FHD<-?

i want one, i live in north america, specifically canada and i'm only interested in the FHD model with the 1920x1080 screen but the fujitsu US site only sells the HD+ 1600x1900 screen and the canadian site is just worthless, like every other multinational company's canadian websites.

i see it's available as a configurable option in europe, will it ever make to this side of the ocean and when?

Reply 1 : Where to buy LIFEBOOK NH751 >-FHD<-?

I am picking one up this weekend at Niagara Computer Systems, in Virgil, Ontario ( related to the owner ). Not sure how customizable it is, other than ramping up the RAM. Can't wait to get my hands on it. They are getting it ready as we speak and say it's pretty sweet.

I live in Quebec and spoke to the Quebec and Eastern Canada distributor for Fujitsu - David Brown - 514-554-0359. He could maybe answer or question or direct you to another distributor. He knows his stuff and obviously knows where they stock the laptops. Good luck!

Interesting - I found the Fortnax web site, neat products, but no mention of Fujitsu products.

Nice to see a Canadian retailer at this level, even if you are in the frigid midwest....

Thanks for the feedback!

This is our new website, still transferring the data and features from the old one. Even though you don't see Fujitsu products there yet, we have the access to most models. We have the E/P/S/T and soon will have the NH (including the FHD version). Just give us a lil time

If you know the exact model number or configuration, send it to me and I'll do my best to find it.

Regards

DCR-TRV25 minidv firewire transfer to new HP Laptop USB port

Trying to understand and verify what I have been told. I can transfer video from this older model camera to a Dell desktop running Windows XP via a USB cable supplied with the camera.

Now have brand new HP Pavillion with USB also, but cannot transfer video. Per Sony, with Windows 7, I must use a Firewire cable/connection. Camera does have iLink connector (Sony's firewire). But, HP says no way to add a firewire port to the laptop.

1) Is there a firewire to USB cable that will work, or must some sort of external converter box be used?

2)I'm told firewire is faster and better quality. Will the degredation in speed and quality make the converter not worth it?

My ultimate goal is to video outdoor training scenarios, transfer it to the laptop in the field, so folks can watch it on a larger screen as a group to critique.

3) My transfer time with minidv tapes is same time it took to record. Would newer model camera using a different storage media make this process a lot faster?

I've read that minidv tape quality is the best of all video camera formats, thus my reluctance to abandon this older camera. For this specific purpose, I think speed takes priority over quality.

4) If I go to a new camera, which storage media would work the best for my purpose?

Reply 1 : DCR-TRV25 minidv firewire transfer to new HP Laptop USB port

NO! No reason to repeat this answer but if ANYONE dares to write yes, buy it from them after they show it working.

As to your other questions, almost all the new camcorders have USB transfer so with over a few thousand camcorders to pick from can we sum it up to "Yes" and "be sure your video editor can use the files."

As to your quality issue, I would challenge that with any of the new 1080p HD camcorders.

I used the LOGICBUY10 code and it worked. Very similar system.

I have 3 sticks of Crucial memory on order. $155 rather than $480 from Lenovo.

Looking for an SSD SATA III.

Take a gander at this blog: Guru3d.com for the review on the SATA III OCZ Vertex 3. Also has a review on the Intel 510 SATA III SSD.

It has a ton of information on how to best set up the computer to optimize SSD life. Apparently you would use an SSD a lot differently than a HDD.

With the W520 we can use a full size 2.5" SATA III SSD so I am looking at them now.

so how much you paid for this config

Reply 7 : Lenovo W520 Owner's Thread

The final configuration cost was about $2400 (after applicable discounts and taxes) which includes a 4yr depot warranty (over $200) and a $30 accessory item.

Taxes alone was about $196.

In retrospect I probably didn't need to upgrade to the i7-2820QM, but that's fine....

pkincy - Where are you getting your information that the W520 supports SATA III 6.0 Gbps? Evidence I'm finding in other threads and on http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf seems to indicate Lenovo has limited the T420, T520 and W520 to SATA II 3.0 Gbps.

In Keith Comb's blog. It should appear with a google of W520 review.

Asus Ul30a

Anyone know anything about this notebook? Looks a lot like the U20A, only brushed silver and 13.3" instead of 12.1". Also a lot cheaper, despite other identical specs.

I'm definitely interested but can't get it here in Canada yet. Importing from the States from one of the dealers here is an idea but shipping and duty fees scare me.

Reply 3 : Asus Ul30a

You should get an individual in the US to resell it to you. If you get it sent from a person vs. company you prob won't have to pay as many taxes. I've sent laptops abroad before and nobody's had to pay taxes yet.

I'm not sure what I think about the body color but I'm liking the UL30A more and more. I'm not finding one with the new CPUs yet though. The only one I find is with the old SU3500. Hope we see the refresh soon.
