Fujitsu scansnap s1500m
I'm looking at purchasing the scansnap, but one of my main purposes is to scan the notes on my hundreds of index cards that I've used for teaching. I want to load them on my ipad and macbook pro. I've heard this machine does not handle anything other than standard weights of paper, and if it can't handle index cards I'll have to look elsewhere. Has anyone had any experience with this? I need someone to advise me before I purchase. Thanks

i want one, i live in north america, specifically canada and i'm only interested in the FHD model with the 1920x1080 screen but the fujitsu US site only sells the HD+ 1600x1900 screen and the canadian site is just worthless, like every other multinational company's canadian websites.
i see it's available as a configurable option in europe, will it ever make to this side of the ocean and when?

I am picking one up this weekend at Niagara Computer Systems, in Virgil, Ontario ( related to the owner ). Not sure how customizable it is, other than ramping up the RAM. Can't wait to get my hands on it. They are getting it ready as we speak and say it's pretty sweet.

DCR-TRV25 minidv firewire transfer to new HP Laptop USB port
Trying to understand and verify what I have been told. I can transfer video from this older model camera to a Dell desktop running Windows XP via a USB cable supplied with the camera.
Now have brand new HP Pavillion with USB also, but cannot transfer video. Per Sony, with Windows 7, I must use a Firewire cable/connection. Camera does have iLink connector (Sony's firewire). But, HP says no way to add a firewire port to the laptop.
1) Is there a firewire to USB cable that will work, or must some sort of external converter box be used?
2)I'm told firewire is faster and better quality. Will the degredation in speed and quality make the converter not worth it?
My ultimate goal is to video outdoor training scenarios, transfer it to the laptop in the field, so folks can watch it on a larger screen as a group to critique.
3) My transfer time with minidv tapes is same time it took to record. Would newer model camera using a different storage media make this process a lot faster?
I've read that minidv tape quality is the best of all video camera formats, thus my reluctance to abandon this older camera. For this specific purpose, I think speed takes priority over quality.
4) If I go to a new camera, which storage media would work the best for my purpose?

NO! No reason to repeat this answer but if ANYONE dares to write yes, buy it from them after they show it working.
As to your other questions, almost all the new camcorders have USB transfer so with over a few thousand camcorders to pick from can we sum it up to "Yes" and "be sure your video editor can use the files."
As to your quality issue, I would challenge that with any of the new 1080p HD camcorders.

Take a gander at this blog: Guru3d.com for the review on the SATA III OCZ Vertex 3. Also has a review on the Intel 510 SATA III SSD.
It has a ton of information on how to best set up the computer to optimize SSD life. Apparently you would use an SSD a lot differently than a HDD.
With the W520 we can use a full size 2.5" SATA III SSD so I am looking at them now.

The final configuration cost was about $2400 (after applicable discounts and taxes) which includes a 4yr depot warranty (over $200) and a $30 accessory item.
Taxes alone was about $196.
In retrospect I probably didn't need to upgrade to the i7-2820QM, but that's fine....

pkincy - Where are you getting your information that the W520 supports SATA III 6.0 Gbps? Evidence I'm finding in other threads and on http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf seems to indicate Lenovo has limited the T420, T520 and W520 to SATA II 3.0 Gbps.
